  • You must be a US citizen or a permanent resident with proper documentation indicating your eligibility for employment in the US.
  • You must be a resident of New York City.
  • You must be literate in the English language.
  • You must hold a valid driver’s license in the state of New York either with a Class B Commercial license or a motor vehicle license.
  • You must meet the educational and experience requirements as stated below.

A five year experience obtained from a full time employment in relation to auto diesel engine repair is requires. And it must be within the last fifteen years.

You may also qualify with a two and a half year experience. It must be rendered as a full time worker within the last ten years provided that you have also obtained the following. One is an apprenticeship experience in the field. Two, you must hold a college certification or diploma related to the profession. And it must have the necessary recognition from the accreditation bodies according to what is recognized by the CHEA and the US Secretary of Education. Relevant education from a vocational, trade or technical school may also be recognized as long as it has the State’s Department of Education approval. Finally, you will need to take an exam provided by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS).

After submitting your application form and all the other necessary forms along with the payment, you must receive an Admission card. You should get it in the mail approximately ten days before the exam date. This should be presented at the test center.

  • Various operating principles concerning automotive components, brakes, clutches, transmission, tires including internal combustion engine

    To qualify, you need to meet at least 70 percent correct answers. The second part of the test involves a practical test. 70 percent is also required to pass this second part of the exam for diesel mechanic certification in New York.

    diesel mechanic certification in New York?

    For submitting your certification application, you may go to the DCAS Online Application system website. The required application forms may be electronically submitted. The site also provides information on sending payments. To be able to successfully submit an application, you must provide a valid email address, a free email account may do.

    Payment can be made using a credit card, debit card or bank card. If you use these payment methods, you are eligible to a $5 discount. A money order may also be made and it should be processed as payable to DCAS.

    You may choose to submit your application online or go directly to the DCAS for manual application and payment of the necessary fees. DCAS centers are found in Brooklyn and Manhattan and they are open from Mondays to Saturdays with business hours from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon.

    In case of any special circumstances, you may request an alternate test date or ask for special accommodation. Any special circumstances should be stated when completing the application form.
